November 2013

The JW House, located next to Kaiser Hospital in Santa Clara, is a respite house for families of patients that are in any hospital in the Santa Clara Valley. This house was a dream of a boy named Jan-Willem Knapen. During his battle with brain cancer, he began fundraising and during the next few years he raised several hundred thousands of dollars. During this time, he also acquired many friends and family who shared his vision.

When Jan-Willem lost his battle with cancer in 2005, he left assured that his supporters shared his passion and would see to the completion of the house. With continued fundraising and building efforts, the JW House opened its doors to serve families of the Santa Clara Valley in 2008. This beautiful home provides day use as well as overnight accommodations, showers, laundry room, play room and meditation rooms for families and friends who have loved ones in hospitals throughout the valley.

In addition to these services, JW House provides a full dinner to the guests every evening. Volunteer groups, restaurants, and individuals provide dinners for approximately 30 people. Meals can be brought in from restaurants or prepared in the full kitchen at the JW House.
Dinners include bread, salad, entrée, side dish and dessert.
