Spiritual Crossfit

The presence of the Holy Spirit was felt at the “Spiritual Crossfit” church retreat on April 7th, 2018. The guest speaker, Pastor Pete Shaw, presented an empowering message and encouraged us to remember “the why” of what we are doing for God’s kingdom. If we lose sight of our passions and fall short in using of our God-given talents and gifts, we miss out on the joy and blessings He has in store for us.

Sharon Cintas and the worship team led us in an uplifting time of worship to start the day, getting us ready to be in the presence of God, and preparing our hearts for His work that day. Pastor Valui spoke on Vision 2020 for SCFBC. He encouraged us with the vision of bringing together all nations and all people to know and love God. Then we had a fun and rejuvenating time of playing ice-breaker games, led by Yessica and Tim McLenegan, creating reminiscences of being in a church youth group in days long ago.

Overall, the retreat was meaningful and valuable in building up relationships with one another and feeding our spirits. Whether the retreat helped people to remember what their life purposes were, to understand themselves better, to learn about tools to help overcome depression and/or anxiety, to be a better listener/communicator, or to just enjoy the worship time and be grateful to God, we each left with a blessing that God had set apart for us to receive on that day.

According to the survey of attendees, 94% shared that they got to know someone better, 91% felt that the event met their expectations, 74% discovered something new about themselves, and 68% learned something new that they could apply to their lives.

We look forward to the work of the Holy Spirit as He continues to move in us as a church body: To grow us spiritually to love God more, to love one another more, and to share the Good News with others. Thank you to Pastor Pete Shaw and Pastor Valui, to all the staff and board members, to the child care workers, and to everyone else who helped put together this retreat.

Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.” (Deuteronomy 7:9 NIV)
