WHY MAKE DISCIPLES OF JESUS?

In Matthew 28:19, Jesus said, “Go and make disciples.” Jesus did not say to go and make converts, or to add as many church members as possible. Many of us had life-changing encounters with Christ, and then stopped there. Disciple, which in Greek is mathetes (math-ay-tes'), means a learner, a pupil, a follower. As a student learns from the teacher, so a disciple of Jesus follows and learns from Him.

FALL LIFE GROUPS
In this Life Group trimester, our goal is to learn how to be a disciple and how to then make disciples of Christ in a post-Christian and pluralistic culture. How can we engage the culture with the never-changing Gospel in a rapidly changing world?

The Fall Life Groups will focus on a church-wide effort to make disciples. We will study the book, The Great Omission: Reclaiming Jesus' Essential Teaching on Discipleship,  by Dallas Williard.

What is “The Great Omission?" It is Jesus' Last Command — Ignored!

The last command Jesus gave to the church before He ascended into heaven was "The Great Commission," when He called for all Christians to "make disciples of all the nations." But many Christians have responded by only making new "Christians," rather than making new "disciples." In this fall’s Life Groups, we will learn how to do as Christ commanded us to do.

Weekly Bible study and Life Group discussions based on “The Great Omission” begin on Sunday, September 2 and end on Saturday, November 17. You can sign up by using a Connection Card, found on the seat backs in the church sanctuary, or by going to the church website at scfbc.org
