JW House Dinner Is Served Ministry

This year, JW House is celebrating 10 years of service to the community. 

SCFBC has been a part of this beautiful ministry for more than six years. I have been serving in the "Dinner Is Served" ministry for three years. 

With the help of faithful volunteers, we have been able to help families who come to JW House looking for some rest from the stresses of being in a hospital environment. When families enter JW House, they are received with a warm smile, kind words, a home-like feeling, and a hot home-cooked dinner – every night, 365 days a year!

Located on the campus of Kaiser Permanente's Santa Clara Medical Center, JW House is a warm, comfortable “Home Away from Home” for families and individuals facing medical crises. Essentially, all those with loved ones receiving care at Bay Area hospitals are welcome at the JW House for rest and self-care during the day or overnight. In addition to its wonderful dining room, JW House also has a comfortable family room with a fireplace, and a special space for kids to play. Kids also have a safe and secure backyard where they can play outside. 

Besides serving dinner to the families, we also interact with them. I have first-hand experience being in their situation. A couple of years ago, my family and I were welcomed to the JW House. This past experience now lets me share a word of encouragement with current visitors, to share words of faith, and – when visitors are willing – to pray with them.

Our first commitment is to our Lord Jesus, which means that by serving others we are also serving Him. 

I want to thank everyone at SCFBC for giving me the opportunity to serve in this beautiful ministry. I encourage you to become a part of this ministry in the coming year. On Sundays, before and after the service, look for the sign-up sheet of open dates when you can serve in the JW Ministry during 2019.
