Redwood Glen is on the GROW!

A Tough Decision

Luke had a tough decision to make.

Luke is a young man who sings in his church’s kids choir and at its annual kids' musical. The 9-year-old 4th grader, who likes sleepovers with his friends, had enjoyed going to Mt. Hermon last summer. When he heard about Redwood Glen’s Children’s Music And Drama Camp (CMAD), he thought it would be fun. But CMAD at Redwood Glen was the same week as his church’s Vacation Bible School (VBS) program. So you can understand his dilemma.

Because Luke always enjoyed VBS, and his family had only recently heard about Redwood Glen, his mom was surprised that he showed interest in the camp. “But,” she said, “being able to be in the woods and also able to participate in a musical...made it a quick decision for Luke.”

Well, Luke not only attended Redwood Glen and participated in the musical for the first time this summer, but he had the lead role. “To play the lead in a musical was one of the goals I set last year,” Luke explained. “Other goals are to make world-famous popcorn and to visit Hawaii.”

Luke had fun at camp and liked his counselors, but it was Xavier who ministered to him in a special way. “I love him,” Luke said. And he thinks Pam, the Camp Shepherd, “is the kindest person I know.”

Memories that stand out? “Boom Ball was really fun. We woke up at five a.m., and since we couldn’t get out of bed until after six a.m., we just lay there talking in bed. Then we’d get up and play carpet ball until breakfast. And having bathrooms in the cabins is great,” Luke said. (At Mt. Hermon’s Redwood Camp, campers share a community bathhouse in the center of a cluster of cabins.)

“And yes, I want to go back to Redwood Glen next year!” Luke concluded.

Luke, give us a call when you get that world-famous popcorn made!
