Jesus to Christ
It is Finished
Sunday March 25th, 2018 - Pastor Wungreiso Valui
John 19:1-42

Jesus said, "It is finished" and bowing His head He gave up His Spirit (John 19:30)
In the face of power, violence and injustice, Jesus renounced power, yet became the most powerful, broke the power of violence with nonviolence, and suffered injustice to give justice to all. -Wung Valui

It is Finished!

  • 1. Jesus Suffered Powerlessness To Give Power To The Powerless
  • 2. Jesus Suffered Violence To Break The Power of Violence
  • 3. Jesus Suffered The Ultimate Act of Injustice For The Ultimate Justice
"Pilate Asked Jesus, Where are you from?" (John 19:9)

CONVICTION of Your Mission

Jesus Suffered Powerlessness To Give Power To The Powerless
Pilate said to Jesus, "Do You not know that I have power to crucify You, and power to release You?" Jesus answered, "You could have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above" (John 19:11)
Your Character (Conviction) is more important than your Charisma "Then He said to the disciple, Behold your mother!" (John 19:27)

COMPASSION for Others

Jesus Suffered Violence To Break The Power Of Violence
"Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, 'Woman, behold your son!' Then He said to the disciple, 'Behold your mother!" (John 19:26-27)
Compassion is more important than simply being Religious
Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly, for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus (John 10:39)

COMMIT to your Calling (passion)

Jesus suffered the Ultimate Injustice to give Justice to all
"Then they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in strips of linen with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury" (John 19:40)
Commitment is more important than Excitement

How Are We Picking Up Our Crosses?

The essence of the Cross is sacrificial love for others. "It is finished!" There is nothing you can add to the work of Jesus on the Cross. Jesus carried His own cross to Golgotha.
He said "Take up the cross and follow me" (Mark 10:21)
What does that mean to you? Are you willing pick up your cross and follow Jesus?
"You will know them by their fruits" (Matthew 7:16)
