How’s Your Soul Doing?

Being joyful and celebrating what God has done and who He is make it well with my soul. One of my favorite worship songs is Kristene Dimarco’s “It is Well.” The lyrics, “Far be it from me to not believe, even when my eyes can’t see. And this mountain that’s in front of me will be thrown into the midst of the sea. Through it all, through it all, my eyes are on you. Through it all, through it all, it is well…It is well with my soul, it is well with my soul.”

We have some incredible ministry goals for 2017-2018. They are biblical, spiritual disciplines that keep our eyes fixed on Christ. No matter what we are going through - trials and challenges, health problems, job stress, etc. - we are called to be faithful in preparing ourselves for what He has called us to do. He who has begun a good work in us will be faithful to complete it. If you feel inadequate or lacking, trust that God's power will be made perfect in your weaknesses. More so, when we abide in Christ and His words abide within us, we will bear much fruit because apart from Christ we can do nothing (John 15:5). These are promises in God’s word that we can claim for ourselves daily.

Each of us has goals: To share the gospel and evangelize. To baptize new disciples. To make prayer more intentional as a corporate body of Christ. To build up new leaders to use their God- given spiritual gifts. To build connections and relationships with new families. To increase participation in social ministries that are serving the poor, sick and needy. And to increase our congregational giving.

These are awesome tasks that God asks us to do. Depending on your personality, you might be excited, terrified, encouraged, or overwhelmed. No matter where you are in your life, your spiritual journey, or what your strengths or weaknesses are, God will provide you a way to serve and glorify Him. I look forward to what God will do in this new ministry year.

Questions to reflect on: Can you hear what God is calling you to do next? Who has God put on your heart to pray for? Or share the gospel with? To lead to Christ?

So let go my soul and trust in Him, the wind and waves still know His name. It is well with my soul, it is well with my soul.” (lyrics from Kristene Dimarco’s “It Is Well”)
