This month, we are once again seeing flowers in bloom in Gladys McFarland’s backyard. These four photos show Trumpet Vine blossoms and buds, growing along her backyard fence. In order to identify the flower, I googled “Red Blossoms with Yellow Pistils” and after looking at over 100 images, I saw none that looked like these blossoms. Only then did I call Gladys to ask. Which says something about living in the world where we first think of searching for answers on a machine rather than talking with a good friend. The “Gift of Gardening” reminds us that being among living things is where we are meant to be.

- I think there are six blossoms & perhaps a dozen buds on a single stem -

- A closer look at the blossoms & the thirteen (?) buds -

- The buds up close & an interesting imperfection nearby -

This Trumpet Vine is located near the blossoming/budding vine in the other photos. This image is photoshopped to create a “watercolor” look. Manipulating the original image also created much more yellow than what the eyes see. The vines have bound the old wooden ladder to the fence for many years.
