When Laughter Returns: Rejoicing After Pain
Sunday May 24, 2026 - Pastor Wungreiso Valui
Genesis 18:9-15; 21:1-7
"And Sarah said, God has made me laugh, and all who hear will laugh with me." Genesis 21:6
Pain Can Silence Laughter -Genesis 11:30; Genesis 18:11
"But Sarai was barren; she had no child."
Question: Where has pain slowly silenced laughter in your marriage or family?
Next Step: Name the pain honestly before God, rather than pretending everything is fine.
Pressure Can Distort Promise - Genesis 16:1-2
"See now, the Lord has restrained me from bearing children. Please, go in to my maid; perhaps I shall obtain children by her."
Question: What pressure is entering your marriage or family and creating distance?
Next Step: Protect the covenant. Do not let fear, pressure, money, children, work, or another person become the center of the family.
Disappointment Can Laugh at Hope - Genesis 18:12-13
"Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, 'After I have grown old, shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also? And the Lord said to Abraham, 'Why did Sarah laugh...?"
Question: Have you stopped hoping because disappointment has lasted too long?
Next Step: Ask God to heal the part of your heart that is afraid to believe again.
God Tells the Truth Without Canceling the Promise - Genesis 18:14-15
"Is anything too hard for the Lord? But Sarah denied it, saying, 'I did not laugh,' for she was afraid. And He said, 'No, but you did laugh!"
Question: What are you denying that God is lovingly asking you to bring into the light?
Next Step: Tell the truth before God and with your family in a humble, healing way.
God Visits the Place of Pain - Genesis 21:1-2
"And the Lord visited Sarah as He had said, and the Lord did for Sarah as He had spoken. For Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him."
Question: Where do you need to trust God's appointed time?
Next Step: Pray together as a family: "Lord, visit our home again."
When Laughter Returns, Pain Becomes Testimony -Genesis 21:3 -7
" Sarah said, 'God has made me laugh, and all who hear will laugh with me." Genesis 21:6
Question: What testimony does God want to write through your family's pain?
Next Step: Celebrate small signs of joy. Do not wait for everything to be perfect before you rejoice.
One Question: Where does your marriage or family need God to restore laughter again?
One Application: Bring your hidden pain honestly before God, trust His appointed time, and make room for joy to return.
