Bible commentaries are wonderful aids as you study the Scriptures. Whether you are just beginning to read the Bible, have been studying the Bible daily, or are looking to deepen your Life Group study, commentaries offer greater understanding with background information on the writers, history, setting, and theme of the Gospel. Here are a few of our favorites available in the SCFBC Library:

TOP BIBLE COMMENTARIES and DEVOTIONALS

The NIV Application Commentary (New Testament) by Zondervan not only explains the original meaning of the text, but also how it can speak powerfully today. For almost fifty years and for millions of readers, Barclay’s Commentaries have been the ideal help for both devotional and serious Bible study. The Layman’s Commentary gives you section-by-section commentary on the flow and theme of each book, as well as historical and literary context.

How to Read the Bible Book by Book takes you by the hand and walks you through the Scriptures. The engaging conversational style gives you deeper insight and knowledge of the Word. Based on his years as a shepherd, Phillip Keller infuses new meaning into our relationship with Christ, the Good Shepherd. A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23 is an intimate study of this well-known psalm. No other book gives such extensive coverage of how the church has understood Revelation over the centuries. Revelation: Four Views is timely read given the current events of our time.

Are you looking to purchase a new Bible? The SCFBC Library has an extensive collection of various translations of the Bible, including the Jewish Bible. The library is a great resource for you to check out a new translation and ”take it for a test drive” before you invest in a new Bible.
