Paul met Timothy when Timothy was young. Paul immediately saw his potential and spent many years investing and training him as a leader, and then released him into a meaningful ministry. VIBE is a haven where middle and high school students can hang out with their friends, build relationships, have fun, and develop their faith and trust in God.
VIBE was inspired by the DC Comics series “The Flash.” The main character, Cisco Ramon, receives supernatural powers and becomes a meta-human who can defeat all evil meta-humans, using his ability to lay hands on people, vibing them to prophetically see the future. Hence, Cisco becomes known as “Vibe." This piece of pop culture connects to our VIBE youth group through 2 Timothy 1:6-7, “Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” Our focus in VIBE is to lay hands on and stir up spiritual gifts through discipling, building up, and encouraging our youth to make a difference and speak up for the voiceless. VIBE enables the students to strengthen their faith in God so that when they graduate from high school they will have a solid foundation to make wise choices and serve joyfully.
I have a tender heart for the youth, and it is a blessing and a joy to serve as your new youth pastor at SCFBC. My passion is to empower middle and high school students to discover and use their spiritual gifts and talents for God’s glory. This summer we are learning how to share our faith and studying the amazing “Women of Destiny” Bible series. If you are in middle or high school, I hope you will come experience VIBE!
