SCFBC Is Me: Tim McLenegan

Church is not just a building. Church is a community. It is a group of people who come together to grow in their faith, live like Jesus and share His love. We know there are so many wonderful people who attend Santa Clara First Baptist Church and we don’t want you to miss out on getting to know them. Every month we’ll highlight someone from SCFBC, share their story, and give you a glimpse of the wonderful people that make up our church.

Meet Tim!

Can you give us a brief introduction of yourself?

My name is Tim McLenegan. I work at Google as a software engineer. I have been a member of SCFBC for a little over 20 years and have served on the board for 1½ years.

What are your hobbies and interests?

I like traveling, hiking, geocaching, photography and riding my bike. I also have been on a couple of coast-to-coast road trips.

What events led you to serve as a board member?

I joined the board the year before Pastor Valui was called to be our pastor. I knew that this would be an important time of transition for the church and I wanted to be a part of shaping the future of our church.

Has your spiritual life grown because of being in this ministry?

Definitely! I have seen the many ways that God is working behind the scenes at our church. The discussions the board has had about goal setting have helped me have a clearer picture of what the purpose of the Church (not just our church, but all churches) should be—not merely putting on fun programs, but bringing people into a personal relationship with Christ.

What words of encouragement would you give to someone interested in serving on the Board?

I would encourage anyone interested in developing their leadership skills to talk to a board member about their experiences. Board service is the best way to influence the long-term direction of the church, and we try to get people with different perspectives on the board so that we can make sure we are as representative of the congregation as possible.
