Be Faithful in Prayer

Matthew 6:9-13 “This, then, is how you should pray: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’  (Matthew 6:9-13)

Throughout June, all the board members were assigned to pray for another member all month. It was a positive experience for me to be intentional about praying, to have accountability to another person on the board, and to be disciplined in praying daily for that person.

I believe I followed through with what I committed to do. My prayers were mostly general, but sincere. However, I was left with a feeling of uncertainty about whether I had done enough praying. I also wondered if this person’s life was somehow being impacted by my prayers.

What I took away from this practice of prayer is that I have barely grasped the enormous blessing of praying for this person throughout the month. Prayer is so powerful, but yet we often don’t pray enough. Prayer is our lifeline to the Creator of the Universe, yet we still have difficulty surrendering all of our burdens to Him. Prayer changes lives, yet we still neglect to pray more God-sized prayers for individuals, for families, for our church, for our nation, and for the world.

As we go into the month of July, all of us on the board will continue in our commitment to pray regularly for each other. We’ll also be praying for a a specific person throughout the month. And, this month, I’m going to challenge myself to pray not just faithfully, but to pray bigger.
