December 2018

On November 9-10, fourteen of us in the  GAP (Generation of Adults in Progress) Life Group went for a retreat at Redwood Glen to connect with one another. We were also able to disconnect from our busy lives and connect with God in His creation.

Alicia, one of the young adults in GAP, had this to say about the retreat: "It was really great to be able to physically step back from the usual busyness of life. You get into your routines and it's so hard to break out of them. The retreat let me physically take a step back and break away from the mentality of needing to be so busy. Being at Redwood Glen also gave me the opportunity to just rest and be able to talk to God in a place of peace. It was an amazing time!"

Another participant, Yessalin, said: "I was able to hear people talk about how much they enjoyed stepping away from their daily routines, and being able to reflect and share their feelings as a group. One thing I took away was what we learned from going into detail about our daily schedules. We also talked about our personal, professional and spiritual goals, and how we can fit our goals to reflect our priorities. And we discovered that our priorities can change during different stages of our life."

During the retreat everyone was able to practice the spiritual disciplines of solitude, prayer, Bible reading, rest and worship. Many of the church's Life Groups have been learning about these disciplines during the fall trimester, as we studied Dallas Willard's The Great Omission.

The retreat showed, once again, that we all need to find time, space and solitude to give rest and strength to our soul, so that our faith will help us to live out our lives in the world.

The GAP young adult group meets every first and third Sunday of the month after the service.
