Neither Do I Condemn You
Sunday January 19th, 2020 - Pastor Wungreiso Valui
John 8 & 9

What is one habit you would like to cultivate to positively influence others?

Compassion First, Conversion Later

Jesus did not condemn the woman caught in the act of adultery

  1. The pharisees wanted to keep the law by stoning the woman to death. Jesus wanted to save the woman by keeping the great commandment: Love. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
  2. "Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, 'I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.'" (John 8:12 NKJV)
  3. "She said, 'No one, Lord.' And Jesus said to her, 'Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.'" (John 8:11 NKJV)
  4. "You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one." (John 8:15 NKJV)
  5. "Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed." (John 8:36 NKJV)

Compassion cannot coexist with condemnation

Self-critical examination and contemplation keep you from condemning others. Be aware, be on the watch of your own thoughts and behavior.

Serve First, Theology Later

Jesus did not judge the man who was born blind

  1. When our identity is rooted in Christ, rather than on success, power or popularity, we can let go of the need to judge. Jesus said "I judge no one." Imagine if you could say "I am judging no one," how that would give you such great inner freedom.
  2. "Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. And His disciples asked Him, saying, 'Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?'" (John 9:1-2 NKJV)
  3. "You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one." (John 8:15 NKJV)
  4. "As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world." (John 9:5 NKJV)
  5. "He answered and said, 'Whether He is a sinner or not I do not know. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see.'" (John 9:25 NKJV )
  6. "He answered and said, 'Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?" (John 9:36 NKJV )

Being judgmental of others cannot bring forgiveness and reconciliation

We are sent into the world and given the ministry of reconciliation.

What is one habit you would like to cultivate to positively influence others?

Jesus had the habit of asking the right questions to help people find the right answers.

  1. Has no one condemned you?
  2. Do you believe in the Son of God?
