Sunday April 7, 2024 - Pastor Wungreiso Valui
Mark 1:17-18
I. Introduction
Scripture Text:
"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will send you out to fish for people." At once they left their nets and followed him." Mark 1:17-18
The Message: Embrace Jesus as the ultimate Rabbi, embodying the way, truth, and life.
II. Understanding Jesus as Rabbi
- Definition of Rabbi: Master, spiritual guide.
- Tradition of discipleship: Pinnacle of the Jewish education system.
- Jesus was not the only Rabbi: Comparison with other rabbis: Hillel, Gamaliel.
III. Following Jesus: A Practice
"Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does (prasso in greek-to do) them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock." Matthew 7:24
- Following entails observing and practicing Jesus' teachings.
- Following is a continuous practice akin to 24/7 commitment.
- Following is different from wandering (Planétés: Wanderer/False Teacher)
IV. Responding to Jesus' Invitation
"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will send you out to fish for people." Mark 1:17

- 2. Ask: Seek clarity and understanding. And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, "Behold the Lamb of God!"(John 1:36)
- 3. Look: Recognize Jesus as the Lamb of God. They came and saw where He was staying, and remained with Him that day (now it was about the tenth hour). John 1:39
- Abide: Dwelling with Jesus
VI. Practical Applications

- 2. Service and Outreach: Live out the radical call of discipleship by love in action
- 3. Community Engagement: Extend Jesus' invitation to others and invite them to experience the transformative power of faith in Jesus.
- 4. Leadership Development: Mentor others in their faith journey, guide them to follow Jesus as the Rabbi, and observe His teachings in their lives.
