The Power of Faith in Jesus
Sunday April 21, 2024 - Dr. Daniel Griffiths
Matthew 28:19

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations..." Matt. 28:19
"'If you can'?" said Jesus. "Everything is possible for one who believes." Mark 9:23

Introduction:

The church lives and grows through discipleship making. A disciple is a disciplined student who understand and obeys the teachings of his or her instructor. In the great commission we are told to do more than learn and obey what we learn. We are to

"...teaching them (the nations) to obey everything I have commanded you (Matt.28:20)."

Every believer is under the great commission to be discipled and to disciple.

This how the church is to grow.

One of the primary qualities of Christian Discipleship is Faith. Why? Because Christian discipleship demands supernatural faith.

  1. We believe in Jesus' virgin Birth, his miracles, his resurrection and other such truth.
  2. It requires faith to receive Jesus as our savior to live an eternal life with him in heaven.
  3. It requires faith to believe we can overcome the power of evil and sin in this life and to have His strength in living daily life in answer to our prayers.
  4. And it requires faith to manifest this supernatural life in our testimony to friends and family that Jesus answers our prayer and still does miracles today.

Faith begins small as we are born into the Kingdom of God. It must grow so that we become more and more confident in God's word as truth and dependable in our life our life. So how do we grow our Faith?

1. Mark 9:17-24, 28-29

  • a. A desperate father
  • b. Failure in faith
  • c. Key to powerful faith

2. Mark 11:22-24, Lk.17:20, Rom.10:17

  • a. Key to building faith is your focus:
    1. Away from size of the problem and our ability or inability
    2. Toward God word and his faithfulness and the Holy Spirit in us
  • b. The Process of building confidence in God:
    1. Fasting (refusing to look at self ability)
    2. Prayer: intimacy with God (dwelling in his presence)
  • c. Rom.10:17 from the Passion Bible: "Faith then, is birthed in a heart that responds to God's anointed utterance of the anointed one."
    1. Faith demands action on the bases of God word to me.
