THE MESSAGE
Go Make Disciples: We can multiply by following the Way of Jesus.
THE TEXT
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. Mark 10:45
THE WAY: A WAY OF LIFE
The original name for the community of Jesus' followers was "the Way" or "followers of the Way (Hodos in Greek =Way). It literally means "a road or path."
- Acts 19:23 And about that time there arose a great commotion about the Way.
- Acts 24:14 I confess to you, that according to the Way which they call a sect, so I worship the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the Law and in the Prophets.
RADICAL WAY:
Jesus said, "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road [way] that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road [way] that leads to life, and only a few find it" Matthew 17:13-14
FOLLOWING JESUS:
Jesus began the formation of his disciples by simply calling them to "come, follow me"-to just walk alongside him on the Way. Invite and Invest as a way of life.
- Mark 3:13 "Jesus "called" his disciples, and "they came to him."
- John 1:39 "So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day."
- In Luke 10:39, Mary "sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said."
- Matthew 7:24, "Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does (prasso in greek-to do; practice) them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock."
THE JESUS WAY OF LIFE:
Mark 10:45 "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many".
- 1. SERVANT LEADERSHIP: Jesus Came to Serve.
- 2. UNCONDITIONAL LOVE: Jesus Modeled Sacrificial Love.
WHY DO I FOLLOW JESUS?
- John 10:10 "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."
- 1 Peter 2:12 Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.
