Live Like Jesus
Learn: Be Attentive
Sunday February 24th, 2019 - Pastor Wungreiso Valui
Luke 8:43-48

INTRODUCTION

The focus of the fourth sermon in the series Live Like Jesus is to listen - Be attentive. Listen to others. Listening to their stories can save their lives. When you know their stories, God's story will make sense. The great impact you can have on others is to listen to their stories and align them with God's story. Their stories are stories within God's story.

WHY?

"Listening and being attentive to someone is more effective to connect people to Jesus than preaching the Good News without empathy."

SETTINGS

In this sermon we will closely follow Jesus to study - in Luke 8:43-48 - how He interacted with the woman who had a blood issue for 12 years. I will layer the event in Luke 8 with an encounter I had with a Jewish man. Jesus listened to the story of a woman who desperately needed a supernatural intervention and rewarded her faith.

BE ATTENTIVE TO THE PAST

"Now a woman, having a flow of blood for twelve years, who had spent all her livelihood on physicians and could not be healed by any, came from behind and touched the border of His garment. And immediately her flow of blood stopped." Luke 8:43-44.

LISTENING TO THE STORY OF OTHERS CAN SAVE THEIR LIVES

To Listen By Paying Attention Calls People Out Of Obscurity And Loneliness
Jesus encountered a woman who was a silent seeker
Give value to the people hiding in plain sight
She had the will to live.

BE ATTENTIVE TO THE PRESENT

"And Jesus said, 'Who touched Me?' When all denied it, Peter and those with him said, 'Master, the multitudes throng and press You, and You say, 'Who touched Me?' But Jesus said, 'Somebody touched Me, for I perceived power going out from Me.'" Luke 8:45-46

LISTENING TO THE STORIES OF OTHERS CAN LEAD TO ONENESS

Listening And Paying Attention Calls People Out Of Solitary Self-Communion Into Community
Jesus called out the obscure and the lonely
Give light to those who are living in shade and shrinking
Jesus has the will to heal.

BE ATTENTIVE TO THE FUTURE

"Now when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before Him, she declared to Him in the presence of all the people the reason she had touched Him and how she was healed immediately. And He said to her, 'Daughter, be of good cheer; your faith has made you well. Go in peace.'" ? Luke 8:47-48

LISTENING TO THE STORIES OF OTHERS CAN LEAD THEM TO JESUS

Listening And Paying Attention To Others Can Lead To Everlasting Life
Jesus rewarded her secret faith openly
Give Jesus to those who are in great despair physically and spiritually
Jesus has the will to save.
