Luke 7:11-17

INTRODUCTION

The focus of the sixth in the series Live Like Jesus is to love. Be Abundant. Invite people to the abundant love of God. Present to them the abundant life in Christ and point them to God. This is where you present the Gospel of Jesus. Now is the time to present the Good News of the kingdom with love and with total faith in the power of the Holy Spirit to transform people's lives. The Holy Spirit will convict and convert. He will create all things new. Jesus did not pressure the people He met for an instant closure and decision. Get out of the way let the Holy Spirit lead. Transformation happens in God's time. Trust Him. Increase comes from God

SETTING

In this sermon we will closely follow Jesus - in Luke 7:11-17 - to study how He interacted with the widow at Nain, whose only son had died. I will layer the event in Luke 7 with an encounter I had a young mother whose child was born premature and died. Jesus saw the widow and had compassion on her and raised her son from the dead. God had compassion on the young mother, made her well and gave her another child.
WHY?
To live like Jesus is to live with compassion. Compassion is the beginning of commitment to the Gospel.

  Love gives you unusual abilities to touch people in your everyday life.
• 3. THE AUTHORITY OF LOVE
  Love gives you unusual power to move the hearts of people in your everyday life.

SCRIPTURAL CONTEXT AND SPIRITUAL APPLICATION

"Now it happened, the day after, that He went into a city called Nain; and many of His disciples went with Him, and a large crowd. 12 And when He came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her." Luke 7:11-12.

  Be Loving In The Midst Of The Greatest Misfortune
  Love seeks the least and the lost.
  

  "When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, 'Do not weep.'" Luke 7:13

• 2. THE ACTION OF LOVE
  Love gives you unusual abilities to touch people in your everyday life.
  Be Loving In The Midst of Immense Grief
  Love heals the brokenhearted.
  

  14 "Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, 'Young man, I say to you, arise.' 15 So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother." Luke 7:14-15

  Love gives you unusual power to move the hearts of people in your everyday life.
  Be Loving In The Midst Of Death
  Love resurrects the soul.
