LEAD OFF

When I first came to Silicon Valley, I thought as the pastor I need to come up with the most creative and innovative ideas, programs and ministries to WOW the visitors and members. But I was REMINDED again to go back to basics.

The HOW is more important than the WOW in living like Jesus
People are interested in knowing HOW to live like Jesus rather than the WOW.
Let us consider the how and whys this morning. Let the Holy Spirit speak to you the What's

INTRODUCTION

The focus of the seventh in the series Live Like Jesus is to lead. Be authentic. Strive to lead like Jesus daily. Once you have experienced the joy of introducing someone to Jesus, you are called to lead them in their new life in Christ as they begin to follow Jesus. Your work of discipleship continues. The new creation is not spiritual maturity. Start leading the new followers of Jesus to become faithful disciples of Jesus. The goal is "Disciples Making Disciples" of Jesus Christ.

SETTING

In this sermon we will closely follow Jesus - in Luke 5:27-39 - to study how He interacted with Matthew, who was a tax collector. I will layer the events in Luke 7 with an encounter I had with a young man who was lost, had no purpose in life, and attempted to take his own life. Jesus saw Matthew and said, "Follow me." Jesus knew Matthew was lost. In the same manner, Jesus saw the young man was lost and called him to follow Him.

WHY SHOULD WE LEAD LIKE JESUS?

Conversion is not the end of discipleship. Conversion is the beginning of discipleship.

"After these things He went out and saw a tax collector named Levi, sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, 'Follow Me.'" Luke 5:2

Lead Like Jesus
Your conviction of Jesus is the right direction.

LEADING BY REAL LIFE DEVOTION

"So he left all, rose up, and followed Him." Luke 5:28

Sacrifice Like Jesus
Your devotion to Jesus is the right direction.

LEADING BY DEMONSTRATION

"Then he gave Him a great feast in his own house. And there were a great number of tax collectors and others who sat down with them. And their scribes and the Pharisees complained against His disciples, saying, 'Why do You eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?'" Luke 5:29-30

Feed Like Jesus
Your Jesus-guided action is the right direction.

LEADING WITH DEDICATION

"Jesus answered and said to them, 'Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance." Luke 5:31-32

Teach Like Jesus
Your dedication to the teaching of Jesus is the right direction.

We live like Jesus so that we may lead others to their eternal destination.
