Following Jesus
Following Jesus To His Suffering
Sunday April 7th, 2019 - Pastor Wungreiso Valui

In the "Following Jesus" Series, we will follow Jesus through His suffering, triumph, and resurrection. We will learn what it means to share in the suffering of Jesus. We will discover what it means to triumph over suffering and to rejoice with Jesus in His resurrection when He conquered death itself. We will understand why bearing our cross daily will help us lead a victorious life.

"And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. - Mark 8:31
"But first He must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation." - Luke 17:25

INTRODUCTION

Following Jesus to His suffering is foundational to understanding and overcoming our suffering. The focus of this first sermon in the series FOLLOWING JESUS - Living In The Power Of His Resurrection is what Jesus said: "The Son of Man must suffer many things."

FOLLOWING JESUS TO HIS SUFFERING

  • Suffering In The Hands Of Family Members
  • Suffering In The Hands Of Friends
  • Suffering In The Hands Of His Own People
  • Suffering In The Hands Of Power (Religious Leaders)
  • Suffering In The Hands Of His Enemies
"For even His brothers did not believe in Him." - John 7:5

Suffering In The Hands Of Family Members
Suffering with patience leads to salvation.

"Jesus' mother, brothers and sisters were all gathered at the upper room waiting for the promised one." -Acts 1:14
"Then they all forsook Him and fled." - Mark 14:50

Suffering In The Hands Of Friends
Suffering with compassion restores those who are suffering.

"Jesus restored Peter and His disciples." - John 21:15-19
"But Jesus said to them, 'A prophet is not without honor except in his own country,'" - Mark 6:4

Suffering In The Hands Of His Own People
Jesus was committed to His mission to the Jews.

"Jesus was committed to fulfill the law and the prophets." - Matthew 5:17
"...and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes." - Mark 8:31)

Suffering In The Hands Of Power (Religious Leaders)
Jesus knew he would be despised and rejected.

"Jesus endured rejection, being despised, and shame - for the joy set before him." - Hebrews 12:2
"...and be killed." - Mark 8:31

Suffering In The Hands Of The Enemies
Jesus offered Himself and sacrificed His life.

"...Jesus gave His life as a ransom for many." -Mark 10:45

CONCLUSION

Those who suffer with Jesus shall reign with Him.
