Who is My Neighbor?
Jesus and the Samaritans
Sunday July 28th, 2019 - Pastor Wungreiso Valui
John 4:3-6

"He left Judea and departed again to Galilee. But He needed to go through Samaria. So He came to a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour." John 4:3-6

CENTRAL IDEA: Jesus had to go through Samaria because Samaritans needed a savior. He interacted with the Samaritans because people matter to God. Jesus did not go through Samaria to save three days journey but to save the people.

"But He needed to go through Samaria"

CONTEXT:

Three Characters

  • 1. A Certain Man (A Neighbor) Needed Mercy (Luke 10:30-37)
  • 2. A Leper (An Unclean Man) Needed Healing (Luke 17:11-17)
  • 3. A Nameless Woman Needed The Messiah (John 4)

Three Attitudes

  • 1. Mercy
  • 2. Gratitude
  • 3. Faith

"BUT" Jesus came to change the world for you.

"NEEDED" Jesus had to die for the world.

"SAMARIA" Jesus came for the whole world, not just for some parts of the world.

COMMITMENT:

  • 1. God did not send Jesus to certain parts of the world but to the whole world. Are you avoiding places and people who are in need of a savior?
  • 2. Show mercy to your neighbor
  • 3. Show gratitude to your neighbor
  • 4. Share faith with your neighbor
