Jesus is Lord
Sunday Sept 22nd, 2019 - Pastor Wungreiso Valui
The Gospel of Matthew

"And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, 'All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.' Amen." (Matthew 28:18-20)
  1. Jesus has the power to issue commands and demand obedience.
  2. Jesus has the power over the creation, like the potter has power over the clay.
  3. Jesus made Accountability foundational in our relationship with him.
  4. Jesus' Authority is best expressed in love. Authority and love are not exclusive.

The Authority Of Jesus

Jesus is the creator of all things. He holds all things together.
Jesus upholds the universe by the power of his words. At the name of Jesus every knee shall bow in heaven, on earth and under the earth.

"All Authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth."

Authority: Jesus has the power over the creation like the potter has over the clay

"And when He had come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, 'Who is this?'" (Matthew 21:10)

"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations..." Authority: Jesus has the power to issue commands and demand obedience.
"Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?" (Matthew 22:36)
"While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, saying, 'What do you think about the Christ? Whose Son is He?'" (Matthew 22:41-42)

"Baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." Authority: Jesus made Accountability foundational in our relationship with him.
"And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?" (Matthew 24:3)

"Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you." Authority: Jesus' Authority is best expressed in love. Authority and love are not exclusive.
"Then they also will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?'" (Matthew 25:44)

Jesus is the Lord of the nations. He will judge.

Jesus can forgive sins.
"But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins" -then He said to the paralytic, 'Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.'" (Matthew 9:6)

Jesus answers your prayers.
"So Jesus answered and said to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast into the sea,' it will be done.'" (Matthew 21:21)
"And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive." (Matthew 21:22)

Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath.
"For the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath." (Matthew 12:8)

Jesus is Lord of the Harvest.
"Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest." (Matthew 9:38)

Jesus is Lord of Nature.
"Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, 'Lord, save us! We are perishing!'" (Matthew 8:25)
"If David then calls Him 'Lord,' how is He his Son?" (Matthew 22:45)

"and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

Jesus is Lord over death. He is the Living One.

"But the angel answered and said to the women, 'Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.'" (Matthew 28:5-6)

There will be persecution.

"...and plotted to take Jesus by trickery and kill Him." (Matthew 26:4)

But, There is resurrection.

"On the next day, which followed the Day of Preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered together to Pilate, saying, 'Sir, we remember, while He was still alive, how that deceiver said, 'After three days I will rise.'" (Matthew 27:62-63)
