Matthew 15-19
- Jesus came to free us from the bondage of legalism
- Jesus came to seek the lost and reconcile humankind to God
- Jesus gave us liberty and eternal life by dying on the cross
"Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? Matthew 15:1-20
Breaking Human Tradition
God is looking for worship not worship from the lips. Lip service - the outward performance of religious acts - is not acceptable to God.
True Defilement
The corrupted hearts will be manifested by words and actions. Jesus was numbered with the sinners. Jesus is the remedy to our sins
"And she said, 'Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their master's table.'" Matthew 15:21-39
A Canaanite Woman's Faith
You cannot put in a minimal effort in your relationship with Jesus and expect a monumental transformation. The Canaanite woman put all her faith in Jesus and her faith moved the mountain. Humility is honorable to God. Faith is pleasing to God. Jesus is the remedy to our sickness.
Healing Many Others & The Feeding Of Four Thousand
Faith does not need help. Faith needs faith. Nothing is little in the hands of God. Do not despise small beginnings. Do not despise where you are. Do not belittle the little you have. Give it to Jesus. He has the answer and He is the remedy.
"Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him asked that He would show them a sign from heaven." Matthew 16
The Demand For A Sign
The demand for a sign is tempting the Lord. The world will tempt us but Jesus has been tempted and He overcame. Jesus is the remedy to our temptations.
The Yeast Of The Pharisees And Sadducees
When ritualism and rationalism replace the regenerative and transformative work of the Holy Spirit, the church will become sour and corrupt. Jesus is the remedy to our pride
Peter's Confession & The First Prediction Of Jesus's Death And Resurrection
To lose eternal life will be a great loss. To gain eternal life we need to lose the world and follow Jesus. He died on the cross and was resurrected so that the gates of hell will not prevail against His church. Jesus is the remedy to death.
"Now while they were staying in Galilee, Jesus said to them, The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill Him, and the third day He will be raised up. And they were exceedingly sorrowful" Matthew 17
The Transfiguration
The transfiguration was a revelation of the transformational Power of Jesus. Jesus is the center of a transformed life. We cannot set up tents after our glorious conversion and stay put. People are struggling in this valley, and they need Jesus. He is the remedy to our helplessness.
The Disciples' Failure To Heal & The Second Prediction Of Jesus Death
In the absence of Jesus our adversaries will prevail. Do not spare any amount of prayer and fasting to lead someone to Jesus. Give it your all in prayer and fasting to go and make disciples of Jesus Christ. Jesus is the remedy for overcoming our adversaries.
The Temple Tax
Jesus paid the redemption money for our sake. Jesus made a one-time clearance of our sins by dying on the cross for all of us. Jesus is the remedy to our debt.
"At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, 'Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?'" Matthew 18:1-14
The Question About The Greatest
Ascending to the kingdom of heaven is tied to descending from the selfish desire of becoming the greatest.
The Parable Of The Lost Sheep
The value of each sheep is the same. The one lost sheep is of no less value than the ninety-nine that are safe. Jesus came for the lost and He is the remedy to hopelessness.
"Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?" Matthew 18:15-35
Restoring Christian Relationships
Do not despise the offending brothers and sisters. When Jesus is the center of the conversation within the congregation, our peace must not be broken by strife and disunity.
The Parable Of The Unforgiving Slave
Jesus forgave all our sins. Unless we are overcome with heaven, humble in our hearts, lowly in mind and poor in spirits, God may continue to shut heaven's door in our faces. Jesus is the remedy to our anger.
"But many who are first will be last, and the last first." Matthew 19
Question About Divorce
Jesus is simply stating again that marriage is honorable in all ways, and that the violation of marriage is abominable to God. Whatever road you choose, marriage or celibacy you need the grace of God and His guidance. Jesus is the answer to our married life or to our single life. He is the remedy.
Jesus And Little Children
The disciples were more childish than the children they rebuked for their childishness. Heaven invites those who are lowly and humble. The door of heaven is open to all who are like the little children.
The Rich Young Man
No one can be saved by works. With God everything is possible. Jesus is the answer and He is the remedy to your eternal quest.
Hundred Fold
When we focus on what we have already received from Jesus, we will have less desire to ask what shall we have later.
In God's divine order, many who are first shall be last and the last shall be first. The meek shall inherit the earth. Those who are humble in hearts, lowly in minds and poor in spirits will be lifted up and rewarded.
