The IMPossible Miracle
More Surrendering, Less Struggle
Sunday December 8th, 2019 - Pastor Wungreiso Valui
Luke 1:37-38

"For with God, nothing will be impossible. Then Mary said, 'Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.' And the angel departed from her." (Luke 1:37-38)

What was done to Jesus had eternal implications. Jesus performed many miracles and did great and mighty things, BUT we have eternal life because Jesus was crucified, and He died on the cross for our sins.

For With God Nothing Will Be Impossible

  1. Live a surrendered life to God so that the impossible can be made possible
  2. A seed has life. Seeds are tough and resilient, but the miracle of life in the seed will remain dormant unless we surrender the seed to the soil.
  3. Jesus used a farming metaphor and said, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain." (John 12:24)

The Angel said to Mary that with God nothing is impossible. Surrender to God's divine plan, He will make what is impossible to you possible.

  1. Miracles could not save us.
  2. Signs and wonders could not save us.
  3. Mighty works could not save us.
  4. The crucifixion of Jesus was a divine plan to save humanity.

The resurrection of Jesus, an impossible feat for a human being was made possible because Jesus lived a life absolutely surrendered to God.

  1. We have a new life because Jesus surrendered His life.

Then Mary said, "Behold the maidservant of the Lord!"

God's mission for your life can be fulfilled by what God does with your life rather than what you do for God. You could be doing so many things in the name of God and have no space for God to do anything with your life.

  1. God is revealed in servanthood. Jesus is distinguished by His servanthood. He came as a suffering servant. You can encounter God in servanthood.
  2. Mary responded, "I am your slave, bondservant. She used the word "Doulos," which means a slave. Mary totally surrendered her independence.
  3. We want to be the master of our actions. A surrendered life in Christ pursues passionately wholeness for one's self and for others.
  4. God's passion dictates our actions, and a God-given passion is far greater than our own actions.

"Let it be to me according to your word."

Impossible things can happen when you surrender your independence and live a humble dependence on God.

  1. If you follow Jesus, you will always reach your destination.
  2. If you surrender to Jesus, you will always be victorious.
  3. If you die to Jesus, you will always live.

After a big project, if you then just go back to doing what you want to do, you have not surrendered your life to God. You may think, "My project for God is done, now let me go live my life."

  1. Surrendering is more about what God does with your life than what you do for God.
  2. When we surrender wholly to God, we can be free from all distractions.

What do you want more this Christmas?

How about "More surrendering?"
