Sunday November 21, 2021 - Pastor Wungreiso Valui
Zechariah 2:10-11

"Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion! For behold, I am coming and I will dwell in your midst," says the Lord. "Many nations shall be joined to the Lord in that day, and they shall become My people. And I will dwell in your midst. Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent Me to you." -Zechariah 2:10-11
For who has despised the day of small things? For these seven rejoice to see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. -Zechariah 4:10

THE MESSAGE

Live Your Vision, Do Not Despise Small Beginnings

THE DESIRED OUTCOME

Be faithful in little things. Almost every big thing starts small. Give your best effort in everything. Do not treat small things as beneath you and unworthy of your best effort.

WHO IS ZECHARIAH?

We know nothing about the personal life of the prophet Zechariah except that he was the son of Berachiah and the grandson of Iddo.

WHAT WAS HIS MESSAGE?

Zechariah had a messianic vision. In time, his messianic vision became the property of his people. He tied the future of Israel closely to all humanity. The future of Israel is also the future of all nations.

THE PROBLEM

God called Zechariah to encourage and mobilize God's people who had lost momentum to complete building the Temple of God.

HOW TO THE PIVOT

1. PIVOT WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT

"So he answered and said to me: 'This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,' says the Lord of hosts." -Zechariah 4:6
  1. It had been 20 years and the temple work had stalled.
  2. The Spirit encouraged Zerubbabel to carry on the work that had stalled.
  3. Collective and individual strength and resources is not enough; lean on the Holy Spirit to accomplish God's work.
  4. Do not trust in your own resources and strength; rely on the full supply of the Holy Spirit.

Blessed are the poor in spirit. Purity alone is not enough to accomplish the work of God; the work of God needs the resources of Holy Spirit

2. PIVOT WITH FAITH

Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain! And he shall bring forth the capstone with shouts of "Grace, grace to it!" -Zechariah 4:7
  1. A big mountain can be moved if you have faith in the size of a small mustard seed.
  2. All the work you accomplish are works of grace.
  3. "Life would be better if I had a bit more material things." Not more material things but more of the Holy Spirit.

3. PIVOT WITH GOD'S PROMISE

Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying: "The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple; his hands shall also finish it. Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent Me to you." -Zechariah 4:9
  1. The Spirit has the resources to begin and finish the work.
  2. The privilege to do God's work is based not on your merit but that God made you as a brand plucked from fire.
  3. Satan, your enemy, has a lot to accuse you of, but you are God's brand.
  4. What God starts He will complete. (Philippians 1:6)

4. PIVOT WITH THE SPIRIT OF EXCELLENCE

For who has despised the day of small things? For these seven rejoice to see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. -Zechariah 4:10
  1. The days of small things are not a mistake or punishment but for molding and preparation.
  2. Throw your weight to strengthen the weak.
  3. There is no shortcut to success because the days of small things shape your character for greater things.
  4. Pivoting with excellence in the days of small things may produce others who will do greater things.

DO NOT DESPISE THE DAYS OF SMALL THINGS

  1. Big things start in small things.
  2. Small things are not mistakes or punishment; they are a time of molding and preparation.
  3. When your character is tested and true in small things, you will be trusted with greater things.

DAILY PIVOT: TAKE SMALL STEPS

  1. Live your vision by faith.
  2. Live your vision by the Spirit.
  3. Live your vision with courage.
  4. Do not despise small beginnings. Satan trembles at your small beginnings.
  5. Do not despise small beginnings. God rejoices over even your "little" work. -Zechariah 4:10
