Renew Your Soul
Sunday January 15, 2023 - Pastor Wungreiso Valui
Psalms 42:5

THE MESSAGE

In this message, I will share with you that all souls belong to God, and He will do everything to restore every soul. At the end of the message, I will explain to you how the word of God can renew your soul to its original purity.

THE SCRIPTURES

Why are you cast down, O my soul?
And why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him
For the help of His countenance. -Psalms 42:5 (NKJV)

The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul (restoring the soul); The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. -Psalms 19:7 (NKJV)

THE SOUL

Nefesh: A living being, a life-force; a person with a mind, desires, and appetite.
The soul is a life-affirming breath of heaven, the divine essence of God.

Why Is My Soul Cast Down?

Reasons:

  1. "When shall I come and appear before God?" (Psalm 42:2b, 42:6)
  2. "Where is your God?" (Psalm 42:3b, 42:10b)
  3. "When I remember these things..." (Psalm 42:4a)
  4. "For I used to go with the multitude..." (Psalm 42:4b)
  5. "Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls..." (Psalm 42:7a)
  6. "Why have You forgotten me?" (Psalm 42:9a)

Sorrow is always a sense of lack and loss. Your soul is sorrowful because there is something wrong.

How Can I Renew My Soul?

  1. Pause. Challenge your sorrow; do not simply surrender to it. Why are you cast down, O my soul? -Psalm 42:5a
  2. Pursue. Seek God urgently like a deer longing for water. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. -Psalm 42:1
  3. Praise. Hope in God and praise Him even if you don't feel like it. Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him. For the help of His countenance... -Psalm 42:5b

Where Does My Help Come From?

  1. God's Command: Who can hinder the command of God's blessings? The Lord will command His lovingkindness in the daytime; -Psalms 42:8
  2. God's Comfort: God will comfort you with His song. And in the night His song shall be with me. -Psalms 42:8
  3. God's Confidence: The song will be a prayer to the God of life. A prayer to the God of my life. -Psalms 42:8

The Renewing Power of The Word of God

The restorative and reviving power of the word of God can renew your soul.
The Psalmist described the word of God in six different ways.

  • I. The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; -Psalm 19:7a The restorative quality of the word gives healing to the soul. There is a renewing power in reading, hearing, and studying the word of God.
  • II. The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; -Psalm 19:7b The word of God is reliable and certain and, because of the certainty, it makes the simple wise.
  • III. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; -Psalm 19:8a God is always right, and those who know the word of rejoice in the truth and find joy in the word of God.
  • IV. The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; -Psalm 19:8b God is pure, and you never have to worry about His word misleading you. God's pure word will cheer, comfort, and give confidence that lights your soul in the midst of the darkness.
  • V. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; -Psalm 19:9a The word of God never fades, corrodes, or diminishes. The word is clean and endures forever.
  • VI. The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. -Psalm 19:9b There is nothing false in the word of God.

    Behold, all souls are Mine;
    The soul of the father
    As well as the soul of the son is Mine;
The soul who sins shall die. -Ezekiel 18:4
