The Journey
The Journey to Emmaus
Gifts for the Journey
Sunday March 17, 2024 - Pastor Steve Pridemore
Luke 24:13-35

Perhaps the greatest and most powerful picture of what it means to Journey with Jesus comes from what we see in how Jesus responds to the disciples after the resurrection. In this moment of the disciples' journey with Jesus, we don't see Jesus getting even or lecturing them. Jesus blesses and loves them by giving them five gifts that he is still giving his followers today. If we are followers of Jesus then these should also shape the way we love the world around us.

The Gift of Peace (v.36-39)

Jesus is bringing peace that comes from the forgiveness and reconciliation he had accomplished on the cross.

Q: Are we bringing Christ's peace to the world around us?

The Gift of Presence (v.40-43)

Jesus returns to be present with them, and he is risen from the dead to be present with us.

Q: Are we present to those around us?

The Gift of Understanding (v.44-45)

Jesus loves the disciples by bringing clarity to their confusion.

Q: Are we passing on what we have learned of God?

The Gift of Purpose (v.46-48)

Jesus is commissioning his followers, then and now, to walk in the joyful purpose of sharing the gospel with the world.

Q: Are we living in this purpose?

The Gift of Power (v.49)

Jesus is promising the resurrection power of God's Spirit, working within them, and working within us.

Q: Are we pointing people to God's power?
