PARENTING: More Than A Mother
Deborah, the Judge and Prophetess
Sunday May 11, 2025 - Pastor Wungreiso Valui
Judges 4:4-10
God will restore you when you make yourself available, walk in bold faith, and courageously follow Jesus in humility.
Availability: Deborah, the Wife, the Judge, and the Prophetess
Deborah reminds us of that. She held many roles-wife, judge, prophetess-but what mattered most was her availability to God. "She would sit under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the mountains of Ephraim."
- Good parenting doesn't start with ability or title.
- What God desires most is your availability, your presence, not your performance.
- Presence over performance. Your palm tree can be your home. Be available.
Boldness: Deborah Was a Leader at Home and Beyond
She boldly summoned Barak and declared, "Has not the Lord God of Israel commanded...?" (Judges 4:6). She didn't let fear, gender, or social position stop her. She walked in the authority of God's call and trusted that He would fight the battle.
- Boldness doesn't begin with ability or title.
- Revival doesn't start with ability or title.
- It starts with a heart that says, "Here I am."
- Let Your kingdom come. Come, Holy Spirit.
Courage: Deborah led with Wisdom and Strength to bring God's victory
Barak's response to Deborah: "If you will go with me, then I will go." And Deborah replied, "I will surely go with you." (Judges 4:8-9)
We need that kind of courage to walk into the promises of God. We need the courage to go and claim it.
- Courage doesn't begin with ability or title.
- It starts with faith and a heart that says: "Let your kingdom come, let your will be done. Come, Holy Spirit."
Humility: Deborah led with humility
Deborah also modeled humility in leadership. She told Barak: "I will surely go with you; nevertheless there will be no glory for you in the journey you are taking, for the Lord will sell Sisera into the hand of a woman." (Judges 4:9)
- Being great doesn't begin with ability or title.
- It begins with humility.
- It starts with a heart that says: "Here I am, Lord. Use me."
Challenge & Application
- Be Available - Sit under a palm tree, it can be your home or workplace. Make space in your life for God to move.
- Be Bold - Step out in faith, even when it's uncomfortable. Obedience opens the door to miracles.
- Be Courageous - Don't let fear hold you back from what God has already promised.
- Be Humble - Let God get the glory. True strength is shown in surrendered hearts.
God will restore you when you are available, walk in bold faith, and follow Jesus with courage and humility.
