Faith That Works Series
Faith Under Fire
Sunday June 8, 2025 - Pastor Wungreiso Valui
James 1:2-3

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing - James 1:2-3

Main Message: Real faith shows up in trials and temptation. Faith is proven when it's under fire. In trials, respond with joy and obedience.

Big Idea: Faith isn't proven when life is easy, but when it's tested. The key is learning how to respond with joy in trials, not because trials are pleasant, but because God is present.

Scattered: James, a bondservant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, James 1:1

  1. God does not waste a scattering. Are you being scattered by God where you are?

Joy & Trials: My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. James 1:2-3

  1. Joy doesn't come from the pain, but from trials. Trials produce fruit, spiritual maturity, and completeness.
  2. Trials expose what's genuine. Are you tested to refine and reveal your faith?

Wisdom: If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, James 1:5

  1. God gives wisdom generously, but faith must be unwavering. Are you asking?

Temptation: Blessed is the man who endures temptation, James 1:12

  1. Remain faithful to God when pressure invites you to disobey. Are you trusting God in the midst of pressure?

Doer of the Word: But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. James 1:22

  1. Doer of the Word doesn't just mean performer; it means someone who creates, practices, and lives it out.

The difference between joy in trials and joy because of trials

  1. Joy in Trials: This is painful, but God is still faithful, and I have a reason to rejoice.
  2. Joy because of trials: Now I understand why God allowed it.

Question:

  1. How can we 'count it all joy' when going through trials?
  2. What does that joy look like in real life?

Application

Start each day by asking: God, what are You teaching me through this?
