When people say someone is a "good person," what do they usually mean?
Do you think being good is enough for a relationship with God? Why or why not?

Nicodemus represents the best of religion and humanity and is still empty.

  1. Why do you think Jesus told Nicodemus he needed a new birth- Born Again?
  2. What do you think Jesus meant by "born of the Spirit"?
  3. In our culture today, what are some ways people try to rely on being good enough instead of seeking spiritual transformation?

2. Jesus - When Love Is Complete ?? Read John 3:14-17 and discuss

Jesus represents the best of God' love and His redemption. Jesus represents what humanity desperately needs.

  2. What does John 3:16 reveal about the nature of God's love?

3. John the Baptist - When Jesus Must Increase ??Read John 3:26-30 and discuss

John the Baptist represents the best of humble witness - pointing everyone to Jesus.

  1. What do you think John meant by "He must increase, but I must decrease"?
  2. Where do you see comparison or competition in your life today?
  3. What might it look like in your life for Jesus to increase?

Application:

Examine what you are truly trusting in: your goodness or God's grace (gift).
Practice humility by giving glory to Jesus rather than seeking recognition.
Receive God's love personally-don't just understand it intellectually.
