John 12:1-19

HOW DIFFERENT PEOPLE WENT AFTER JESUS

1. Mary, Martha, and Lazarus Goes After Jesus (v.1-2)

Six days before the Passover, Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him.

1. When Jesus transforms your life, you go after Him with your whole life.
2. Question: Do you just attend church or live as a testimony?

2. Mary Goes After Jesus (v.3)

Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus...

1. True followers don't calculate worship-they pour it out.
2. Question: Do you give Jesus your best or your leftovers?

3. Judas Goes After Jesus (v.4-6)

Judas Iscariot said, Why was this fragrant oil not sold...and given to the poor?

1. You can be near Jesus and still miss Him.
2. Question: Do you examine your motives-why are you following Jesus?

4. Chief Priests Goes After Jesus (v.9-11)

But the chief priests plotted to put Lazarus to death also...

1. When people reject Jesus, they often resist the truth and fight what God is doing.
2. Question: Do you oppose what God is clearly doing in your life?

5. The Crowd Goes After Jesus (v.12-13)

The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast...took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out: "Hosanna!

1. You can praise Jesus loudly and still not follow Him truly.
2. Question: Have you moved from excitement to surrender?

7. The Disciples Goes After Jesus (v.16)

His disciples did not understand these things at first; Jesus was glorified then they remembered

1. You don't need full understanding to follow-but you must keep following.
2. Question: Do you trust Jesus even when you don't fully understand.

8. The Witnesses Goes After Jesus (v.17-18)

The people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of his tomb... bore witness.

1. When you encounter Jesus, you become a witness.
2. Question: Is your story someone else's invitation?

9. The Pharisees And The Unstoppable Reality (v.19)

"You see that you are accomplishing nothing. Look, the world has gone after Him!"

1. No plan, no power, no opposition can stop Jesus.
2. Question: How are you going after Jesus?

Final Application

Move from following Jesus for your reason ? to surrendering to Jesus for who He is.
