The Legacy of Family & Blessing
Sunday June 28, 2026 - Pastor Margareth Valui
Genesis 48:15-16

A godly legacy is not what you leave behind - it's what you intentionally pass on.

In Genesis 48:15-16, we find a deeply moving and highly strategic family moment: an aging, nearly blind Jacob (Israel) blesses his two grandsons, Ephraim and Manasseh.

1. Legacy Is Formed Over a Lifetime With God

48: 15-16a "God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked... The God who has fed me all my life long to this day, The Angel who has redeemed me from all evil,"

Q. How has God been faithful to you?

Name one way God has been faithful in your life and share it with your children, grandchildren, family, or church family.

2. Blessing Must Be Intentional, Not Assumed

48: 16b "Bless the lads;"

Q. Who needs to hear and see your blessing, encouragement, and prayer?

This week, speak a clear blessing over someone younger than you. Pray for them by name. Encourage them with words of identity and purpose.

3. God's Purposes Are Generational

48: 16c "Let my name be named upon them, And the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; And let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth."

Q. Are you living only for your lifetime, or are you investing in the next generation?

Choose one person in the next generation to pray for, mentor, encourage, or invest in spiritually.

The Two Distinct Blessings:

I. THE LEGAL BLESSING

48:5 "And now your two sons, who were born to you in the land of Egypt before I came to you in Egypt, are mine; Ephraim and Manasseh shall be mine, as Reuben and Simeon are."

II. THE PROPHETIC BLESSING

48: 19 But his father refused and said, "I know, my son, I know. He also shall become a people, and he also shall be great; but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his descendants shall become a multitude of nations."

THE LASTING LEGACY OF JACOB'S BLESSING in Genesis 48

  1. The Restructuring of the 12 Tribes
  2. The Rise of Ephraim as a Superpower
  3. A Legacy of Brotherhood and Peace

Q: What kind of spiritual legacy are you building and passing on?

Next Step: Speak a blessing this week-pray over your family, children, or spiritual sons and daughters.
