Romans 4-5
"Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." - Romans 5:1
1. RECEIVE - RIGHT WITH GOD BY FAITH
Read Romans 4:1-5.
Paul points to Abraham to show that righteousness is not something we earn. It is something God gives to those who trust Him.
Discuss: Why is it sometimes difficult for people-even Christians-to simply receive God's grace rather than trying to earn His approval?
2. TRUST - CHRIST, NOT OUTWARD RELIGION
Read Romans 4:9-12.
Abraham was declared righteous before he was circumcised. Faith first, the sign followed.
Discuss: What are some good church practices that can become substitutes for a genuine relationship with Christ?
3. REST - PEACE WITH GOD
Read Romans 5:1-2.
Because we have been justified through faith, we no longer have to live uncertain about where we stand with God.
Discuss: How does peace with God change the way you live?
4. GROW - GOD USES PRESSURE
Read Romans 5:3-5.
Tribulation can produce perseverance, character, and hope. God does not waste the pressures we experience.
Discuss: Share a time when God used a difficult season to deepen your faith or shape your character.
