The 11th Commandment
Spiritual Formation
Evidence of Progress
Sunday November 5th, 2017 - Pastor Wungreiso Valui
1 Timothy 4:13-16

Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership. Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all. Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you (1 Timothy 4:13-16).

THREE THINGS ON SPIRITUAL FORMATION

  • 1. Jesus Is The Starting Point of Spiritual Formation
  • 2. The Holy Spirit Give His Power To Engage In Spiritual Discipline & Practices
  • 3. Spiritual Exercise Is Required For Spiritual Formation
Dub's Formation "I work on growing a deeper relationship with God, And I leave the width and height of my ministry to God."

1. JESUS IS THE STARTING POINT OF SPIRITUAL FORMATION

  1. God Wants Us To Grow And Growth Is From God (Col 2:19)
  2. Growing Is A Lifelong Journey (Phil 3:12)
  3. The Destination Is Becoming (Mature) Like Christ (Eph 4:13-15)
Dub's Formation When emotions and feelings drive our walk with God, our spiritual wheels will eventually be deflated. A Spirit-driven walk with God endures.

2. THE HOLY SPIRIT GIVES HIS POWER TO ENGAGE IN SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINE & SPIRITUAL PRACTICES

  1. Be Attentive And Keep Stirring The Gift (1 Tim 1:6)
  2. Do Not Neglect And Reject The Gift And Calling (1 Cor 1:7)
  3. Give Yourself Wholly To Hone In On Spiritual Discipline And Home In On Christ (2 Timothy 3:10-17)
Dub's Formation Daily spiritual practice of spiritual disciplines is required for growth and maturity.

3. SPIRITUAL EXERCISE IS REQUIRED FOR SPIRITUAL FORMATION

  1. Devote Yourself To Reading The Word Of God (1 Tim 4:13)
  2. Meditate On The Gift of God (1 Tim 4:14)
  3. Attend To Yourself (1 Tim 4:7-8)
  4. Persevere In The Word, Gift, Doctrine To Save Yourself And Others (1 Tim 4:16)
