The Beginning of the Church
The Message Of The Holy Spirit
Sunday April 29th, 2018 - Pastor Wungreiso Valui
Acts 2

"Then Peter said to them, Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call." (Acts 2:28-29)

Do you know how we can save the world? Here is the answer: Humans with the message of the 'Good News' through the Spirit can save the world. And by 'through the Spirit' I mean the Holy Spirit that gives extraordinary power to the people to spread the Good News with love that heals the world.

ACTS CHAPTER TWO

Four Events In Acts Chapter Two

  • 1. The Coming of The Holy Spirit
  • 2. The Response of The People in Jerusalem
  • 3. The First Sermon of Peter after The Resurrection
  • 4. The Beginning and The Growth of The Church of Jesus Christ

WHY DID THE HOLY SPIRIT COME?

  • 1. The Holy Spirit Came Because He Is The Promised One of The Father
  • 2. The Holy Spirit Came To Spread The Message Of Jesus Christ
  • 3. The Holy Spirit Came To Build The Church Of Jesus Christ

The Significance Of The Promised One Coming On The Day Of Pentecost

"When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting." (Acts 2:1-2)

It Was God's Plan To Send The Promised One - The Holy Spirit
The ascension of the resurrected Jesus to heaven and the descension of the Holy Spirit on earth was the beginning of the creation of the church.

PENTECOST

  1. Jesus is the First Fruit who rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:20)
  2. Everyone who believes in Jesus has the first fruits of the Spirit (Romans 8:23)
  3. People of God are known as the first fruits (Revelation 14:4)

God loved us so much that He made a way for everyone who believes in His message to escape death and have eternal life.

The First Message of The Holy Spirit

"We hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God." (Acts 2:11)

Confusion At Babel Reversed At Pentecost

The message was clear in one accord, and one accord means one mind, one passion. They spoke in a loud voice so that the whole world heard about Jesus.

"...He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come." (John 16:13)

The First Message From A Disciple Of Jesus - Peter

"And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the LORD Shall be saved. "Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ." (Acts 2:21, 36)

Jesus Christ Is Lord, Call On His Name Shall Be Saved

Call On: To put a name upon, to surname. Call on the name means to permit one's self to be surnamed, to be named after someone: Jesus.

Save: The word save, sozo in Greek, means:

  1. to rescue you from danger or destruction
  2. to preserve one who is in danger of destruction
  3. to save a suffering one (from perishing)
  4. to make well, heal, restore to health
  5. to deliver from the penalties of the Messianic judgment
  6. to save from the evils which obstruct the reception of the Messianic deliverance

The First Response To The Message Of The Holy Spirit

"Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, 'Men and brethren, what shall we do?'" (Acts 2:37)

The Creation Of The First Church Of Jesus Christ

"Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added." (Acts 2:41)

The Lord Added To The Church Daily Those Who Were Being Saved.
