The VIBE Youth Group had 18 youth and 4 leaders attend Sugar Pine Christian Camps for a winter retreat over the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday extended weekend. The theme of the retreat was from Judges 6:12. When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.” Aside from having plenty of free time to zip line, play paintball, carpet ball, basketball, street hockey, and board games, and to do arts and crafts, our youth also engaged in the spiritual aspect of the retreat. In six worship sessions the youth learned that to become a warrior they are: Recruited by God, Trained (spiritual disciplines), Tested, part of a Unit (team accountability), Deployed (sharing their faith), and prepared to go into Battle (challenges and daily life).
It
was life-changing and eye-opening for many youth to start fresh and put
God in the center of all we do. We are very happy for Ava, Grace, and Jenny, who made a life decision to follow Jesus and receive salvation. As
the angels in Heaven were rejoicing, we celebrated with the girls in the camp cafe with candy and hot
chocolate. We all had a great time and got closer to God and each other.
