JOURNEY TO THE CROSS

Journey to the Cross is an opportunity to spend concentrated time in prayer and confession, reflecting on Jesus and the sacrifice He made for us. This year, Journey to the Cross will be an online experience. We encourage everyone to set aside time on Good Friday, April 10th, for personal meditation, either alone or with family. You are invited to experience "Journey To The Cross" at any time during the day. An email guide will be sent to you during Holy Week, which begins Sunday, April 5th, to help you pray and reflect on Jesus’ journey to sacrifice Himself on the cross for us.

It is said that confession is good for the soul. While I believe this to be true, what often passes for confession in my own life is quickly saying the right words before taking the bread and cup on the first Sunday of the month. In Psalm 51, David pleads, “Have mercy on me, O God, because of Your unfailing love. Because of Your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins. Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. For I recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and night…”

The words of Psalm 51 are powerful and almost gut-wrenching as they express how sorry David was for what he had done! True confession is about more than saying the right words. Confession is an attitude of humility and repentance. When David realized his sin, he sought God’s forgiveness. David fell to his knees, wrecked; he laid out his failures and cried out to God. This was not very kingly behavior, but David cared only about confessing his sins to God and being forgiven by Him.

Don't miss this opportunity to reflect on our relationship with Jesus, as well as mourn and feel what Jesus is feeling for those who seek the comfort that only He can give us during this oppressive and difficult time.
