"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted  among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!"

"The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge." Psalms 46:10-11

How can we reduce the noises and distractions that are coming from all sides, so that we can listen to our inner voice and the voice of God? We definitely need to be in tune with the Lord of Hosts if we want to live a victorious Chris-like life. Dallas Willard, in his book, The Great Omission, wrote about three practices or spiritual disciplines that can be helpful in keeping our Sabbaths real in the midst of our hurried lives:

Solitude means time alone, being out of contact with others, and doing no work. When well-practiced, Solitude can break the power of busyness, of being distracted, and of feeling isolated and lonely.

Silence means quietness, freedom from sounds except for natural ones, like breathing, bird songs, and the wind and water moving. It also means not talking. “Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10

Fasting means to abstain from, or significantly reduce, eating our preferred food for a significant period of time in order to consciously experience the direct sustenance of God to our body and our whole person. Fasting is a feast for our souls.

We can ask ourselves, “What spiritual disciplines do I need to work on to be more like Christ, walk daily with the Holy Spirit, and live daily from the reality of God?”

Once we have built a firm inner foundation by connecting with God and with our self, the next step is to connect with believers who are like-minded, and who can be accountable with you for spiritual growth. One way to do this is to get "connected" with one of the Life Groups that currently meet by using Zoom. Through this way, we will continue to meet, pray, and study Scripture virtually. I hope you will take this unique opportunity for real-time human conversations that let us connect in a small group and grow in our faith life.

I invite you to do Life together with the larger body of Christ so that we may edify one another. Summer Life Groups began on Sunday, May 24, and last through Saturday August 15, 2020. You can sign up for the group of your choice 24/7 by visiting scfbc.org/lg

Once you sign up, your Life Group leader will contact you with more information.
