September 2020

When we are not founded in the Word, we flounder in our walk with God. As the Psalmist wrote, “Deep calls to deep.” (Psalm 42:7) The Word of God will direct our path in the roar of the waterfalls, and when waves and breakers sweep over us.

The church leadership team has set a goal of being ROOTED in the WORD, PRAYER, and DISCIPLESHIP as we start a new ministry calendar year in September 2020. We want to read the Bible more. There will be a church-wide emphasis on reading the entire Old Testament in the new ministry year, which is from September 2020 through August 2021. You will be receiving a "Reading Challenge" email or text, weekly or daily, according to your choice. I encourage you to discipline yourself to read the Word of God more in this coming year. And, of course, it will be even better for you if you do that with a group of faithful people via Zoom or another means of maintaining social distancing while still being "in touch" with one another!

Devoting our time to the Word of God is essential to be a living church. The Bible will give us practical directions in our everyday life. It is an everyday book. The Bible understands the human condition and is full of wisdom for every day, every week, every month, and every year. I hope and pray that we will be like the believers in the early church, where “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” (Acts 2:42)

This Summer: We went into the summer trimester of Life Groups while Sheltering in Place. We were able to do Life Together by using technology while being separated from one another. Most of the Fall Life Groups will continue to meet online by using "Zoom” until we can be together again in person. These Life Groups will continue to meet, pray, and study Scripture together virtually. Some Life Groups will be able to meet in the Community Park as long as they follow the "Social Distancing Protocol" set up by Santa Clara county. I hope you will take this unique in'person opportunity for real-time human conversations that let us connect in a small group and help us grow in our faith life.

Fall Life Groups begin on September 6 and last through November 21. You can sign up for the group of your choice 24/7 by visiting scfbc.org/lg. Once you sign up, your Life Group leader will contact you.
